2016 Reporting Allows for Minimum Continuous 90-Day Reporting Period
2017 Transitions the Medicare EHR Incentive Program Reporting to Reporting for MIPS Advancing Care Information Performance Category
Once again, Eligible Professionals (EPs) returning to participate in the EHR Incentive Program in 2016 have the option to report on any continuous 90-day period between January 1 and December 31, 2016. Successfully completing your EHR Incentive Program attestation based upon your current Stage of Meaningful Use for 2016 allows EPs to avoid penalties that Medicare will assess on 2018 payments. EPs should attest using 2014 Edition certification and follow the Modified 2015 requirements.
As a reminder, 2016 program attestation for EPs must be submitted by February 28, 2017 at 11:59 pm EST.
In 2017, the new MIPS performance category Advancing Care Information (ACI) will essentially replace the Medicare EHR Incentive Program. The good news is that the 2017 reporting period for MIPS will continue to be a continuous 90 days period during which Eligible Clinicians (ECs) – the new terminology for those participating in MIPS – and ECs will have the option to attest to fewer requirements using a 2014 or 2015 Edition Certified EHR.
