DrFirst RxInform

DrFirst RxInform is free, already included in MicroMD EMR, and active when your practice upgrades to version 18.0.4.

How Does RxInform Work?

Patients receive a text message minutes after you send their e-prescription to the pharmacy. The text message contains a link to a HIPAA-compliant website that lets patients view information related to their new prescriptions and to their pharmacy, including:

  • Education: Drug-specific educational videos and information to address clinical concerns.
  • Savings: Discounts and copay assistance for branded or generic drugs to address financial barriers.
  • Call to Action: Option to set a pickup reminder to reduce forgetfulness.

How It Works in MicroMD

For patients 18 and older, there is a new check box on the Prescription Processor window called Send Rx adherence and text supporting info to patient. MicroMD automatically places a check mark in this option and defaults to the patient’s Cellular Phone from their demographics.

MicroMD automatically verifies if the number is capable of sending and receiving SMS text messages. If the patient’s cellular number is not capable of receiving SMS text messages, MicroMD EMR does not display the patient’s number in the field and clears the checkbox.

If a phone number does not appear in the phone number field, you can ask the patient for their cell and enter an SMS-capable phone number to use for the RxInform messages.

If the patient does not have a Cellular Phone recorded in their demographics, the system automatically updates their demographics with the phone number you add and can now use that number automatically next time.

Patients can opt out of the service after receiving text messages. MicroMD EMR disables the RxInform option if the patient has opted out so you can’t send them a message if they don’t want to participate.

Set the Default Value

You can set your default for the RxInform feature in your User Preferences (under ToolsUser PreferencesPrescriptions).

Remove the check mark to set the default for the Prescription Processor window as unchecked for all patients for whom you prescribe medications.

Keep in mind there are several scenarios that override your default, including when the patient has opted out of RxInform text messages. The patient must opt in again to begin receiving text messages.
